About

The first ‘major’ of the PTO era absolutely needs stellar fields, and as of now the 2022 Canadian Open in Edmonton has just that.

The inaugural running of the event takes place in the North American city on Saturday July 23 and Sunday July 24, with a massive prize pool of $1million up for grabs.

There are two terrific middle-distance races in store with a host of the world’s best athletes lined up to take part.

In the men’s field we have the reigning Olympic and IRONMAN World Champion Kristian Blummenfelt, and his compatriot and IRONMAN 70.3 World Champion Gustav Iden.

We also have home favourite Lionel Sanders and the late bonus addition of double Olympic champion Alistair Brownlee.

The women’s start list has similar depth and now features 17 of the top 25 in the PTO’s world rankings, headed by Laura Philipp.

It includes one of the greatest triathletes of all time in Nicola Spirig.

These lists come with the usual elite triathlon caveat of ‘subject to change’ between now and the weekend, but as of now these are your potential pro fields.
