It is the National Garden Schemes 90th Birthday this year and ours too as we have been opening for them without a break for 90 years,
The National Garden Scheme is the most significant charitable funder of nursing charities in the country, donating over £50 million so far. The beneficiary charities are: The Queen’s Nursing Institute, Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Carers Trust, Hospice UK, Perennial, Parkinson’s UK and other guest charities.
1927 Sir Henry and Lady Norman (great grandparents) opened the gates to the NGS and we have continued to donate to them every year since. Around 3,700 gardens open each year for the National Garden Scheme and we are one of only two gardens to have opened for them for the last 90 years, Sandringham being the other garden.
Here are a few of photos of the garden from when it first opened.
The garden is looking spectacular in time to celebrate the anniversary on Friday 12th May with our signature Rhodendrom 'Cynthia' in bloom and lining the drive with the rich pink flowers, and dotted throughout the garden.
Do come and see us and support the wonderful charities who are helped by the NGS.
