Summer garden open

A unique chance to discover the unseen rhododendrons at Ramster

Ramster Garden in Chiddingfold, Surrey, famous for its collection of rhododendrons and azaleas, is keeping its doors open to visitors during the summer months right through to autumn, when it will close for winter on 1st November 2020.

The family run garden, which traditionally opens for its spring flowers and autumn colour, has decided to stay open this year, giving visitors a rare opportunity to see its amazing display of summer flowering rhododendrons. This will be the first time the towering bushes of scented flowers which bloom in July and August have been on public display.

Planted as unnamed seedlings years ago, the rhododendrons which range in colour from white and cream to many shades of pink, create a striking contrast with the blue hydrangeas in the garden. Visitors will also be able to enjoy an incredible show of climbing roses and a variety of species of wildflowers including orchids in Ramster’s meadows.

Rosie Glaister, who runs the garden along with other family members, is delighted that Ramster can open again.

“It was sad to close the garden during the lockdown in spring when visitors normally flock to see the rhododendrons and azaleas which after a lot of winter rain and spring sunshine were particularly stunning this year, however, we hope by opening during summer we are offering visitors and season ticket holders something completely new to see in the garden. It also means no one misses out on the chance to see the autumn colour which seems to get earlier and earlier each year.”

Ramster Garden is open every day 10am - 4pm until 28th June. From 1st July the opening hours will change to Wednesday through to Sunday (closed Monday and Tuesday) 10am - 4pm until 1st November 2020 when the garden closes for winter.

A lovely selection of drinks, sandwiches and cakes are available to take away from the Teahouse. No pre booking is required but visitors are being asked to observe the social distancing guidelines.
