Autumn colours at Ramster Garden

During autumn, our much-admired woodland garden transforms into a breathtaking tapestry of gold, amber, and crimson, offering a perfect setting for a seasonal day out.

With a unique collection of over 1,500 catalogued trees and shrubs, the 25-acre woodland walk is one of the region's most treasured independent garden attractions.

Autumn Colour Highlights

Ramster Garden acer avenue offers perhaps the season's most arresting display, where mature Japanese maples ignite in shades of fiery red and burnt orange. Meanwhile, the liquidambar tree shifts through its seasonal palette from deep crimson through royal purple to burnished gold.

Visitors will also be treated to a brilliant show of colour from the dove or handkerchief tree. Known for its unique spring flower bracts, this rare tree features autumn hues of golden yellows and oranges. Among the dogwood collection, nature's artistry reveals itself as the delicate ruby fruits of Cornus 'Norman Hadden' float weightlessly on the ends of branches.

Throughout the walk, visitors will discover unexpected sculptures and natural carvings. Look out for the Red Dragon, a bench carved from a fallen Californian redwood, which watches over one of the winding woodland paths.

A tranquil tea room with a delicious food

The garden, which has been in our family for over 100 years, is renowned for its peaceful atmosphere and homely tea room, which serves freshly made sandwiches, homemade soups and quiches, and a selection of delicious cakes. For those chillier days, our tea room is equipped with a wood burner, ensuring a warm and cozy atmosphere for all visitors.

Dogs are welcome

Well-behaved dogs (must be kept on a short lead) are welcome throughout the garden and tea room.
